Welcome to the MSP Newsletter

¡Bienvenidos! Thank you for subscribing to the Medical Spanish Podcast Newsletter. This newsletter will be published about once monthly to keep you informed of new topics and developments at Medical Spanish Podcast. In addition to news, I will try to include a tip or two.

When I started this podcast, my intent was to provide clinical dialogues for the more advanced Spanish learner, but as the Medical Spanish Podcast evolves, our goal will be to provide useful audio lessons for all levels, from the beginner to the advanced Spanish learner.

Language Tailor Beginner Medical Spanish Free Podcast Series:

Remember the episode Los Dolores with Nuria Alonso Garcia, the instructor for Language Tailor's Online Beginner Medical Spanish Course? Well, we received a very positive response to this episode, so we have decided to make a series of free sample lessons from Language Tailor's Online Course. During each episode, I will act as the student as Nuria teaches me basic Medical Spanish. The second episode in this series, "Greetings," will be published this Saturday. To learn more about the class, check out the interview with Nuria

Building Blocks Series Starting in July

I'm very excited to announce our new Building Blocks Series.  The Building Blocks Series will be a systematic review of medical vocabulary and simple phrases used when performing a comprehensive Medical History and Exam. Each podcast will be taught in a basic format. First we go through the vocabulary. Then we practice using the vocabulary in simple questions and phrases. All of the questions will illicit a yes/no response, so that you can immediately put what you learn to practice.

The first episode of this series will be published in mid July and new episodes will be added every 2 weeks. Here's the line-up for this new series.

  • Greetings
  • Medical Professionals
  • Family Members
  • Anatomy
  • Identifying the Chief Complaint
  • Characterizing the Problem
  • Review of Systems
  • Past Medical History
  • Family History
  • Social History
  • Physical Exam
  • Treatment instructions
  • Numbers: Time, Date, Amounts
  • Useful Phrases (How to reassure, comfort, offer condolences, and apologize.)

Although the Building Blocks Series will be written with the beginner in mind, it will also provide useful medical terminology for the more advanced learner. So look for our new Building Blocks Series starting in July. Once you subscribe to the series, each new episode will automatically download to your personal podcast feed.

For the More Advanced Learner

We will continue to publish at least one new clinical dialogue a month, and each dialogue will be part of a Premium Podcast Series of interactive exercises.

Tip of the Month:

When examining a patient, there are two ways to say: "I am going to listen to your lungs."

1) Le voy a escuchar los pulmones.

2) Voy a escuchar sus pulmones.

In the first one we use the indirect pronoun "le" to refer to the patient, and the definite article "los" before the body part (lungs). In the second, we simply use the possessive adjective "sus" to refer to the patient's lungs. Both are commonly used.

Thanks again for subscribing and have a wonderful month!

Saludos,

Doc Molly of the Medical Spanish Podcast
